At Brass, we are very passionate about team building. We owe a lot of our achievements to our vibrant and successful team. We believe a healthy team provides a solid foundation for growth and efficiency in any organisation.

Here are three tips on how we position our team for success consolidated in the 3 C’s framework explained below:

Competence

Competence is defined as the ability to perform an action successfully or effectively. This is a skill that all leaders should possess as it helps in executing tasks efficiently. Your team mates also mirror some of your decisions and so it’s important to always strive for quality, pay attention to the smallest details in your work, and never stop learning and growing as a person.

Character

As often said, good character builds trust, and without trust, people will not follow you. Every leader should be characterised by integrity, empathy, respect, and open-mindedness. Furthermore, you must demonstrate your organisation’s core values, as many people learn by seeing rather than hearing their leaders.

Communication

How you interact with your team members is crucial. Make sure your team members are well informed about their responsibilities. Be specific about the goals you have for the team. Also, express your expectations. You must also be open to receiving and delivering feedback professionally and efficiently. Discuss topics other than work with your team. By feeling their pulse, you can tell when to apply more pressure and when to relax it.

Bonus Tip

At Brass, we have a dedicated budget to support each employee’s personal development, scheduled one-on-one meetings to get to know and understand them better outside of work. For efficient team management, we also created a quarterly feedback model that works horizontally (between teammates) and vertically (manager-team members) to create a stronger, better, and more effective work environment.
